Program Prepares Teachers for School Leadership Roles

The Cherokee County School District offers an annual program to prepare teachers for future leadership roles.

The Superintendent’s Leadership Academies (SLA) initiative gives teachers, support staff and school and district leaders the opportunity for professional development through various classes for different leadership experience levels.  The Academies include four year-long programs, beginning with the SLA I teacher leader class, for classroom teachers, school counselors and other certified educational staff, designed to encourage professional growth and to identify future assistant principals and other school and district leaders.  Congratulations to our talented and dedicated employees participating in this program and thank you to our School Board for its laser focus on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

Participants attend sessions with the Superintendent, her senior staff and other district leaders.  Through the program, participants gain a better understanding of overall school and district operations from the Principal’s role as an instructional leader to school budget and resource management to building positive classroom and school climate.  Participants apply to participate in the program, and class selections are made based on applications and references.
