What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?
Allowing my students to learn through inquiry-based learning opportunities is one of the innovative techniques that I use as a teacher. Inquiry-based learning allows the students to take ownership of their learning. The students are encouraged to collaborate, build their own ideas, and discover different ways to make sense of the world.
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
My fifth-grade teacher, Danelle Chereck, was the best teacher that I ever had in school. While entering her classroom, you felt safe and encouraged to take risks. She celebrated students’ growth and set high expectations for her students. I am very thankful for her support and continuous encouragement.
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
Reading with your child is a great way to help students develop a love for learning and strong vocabulary. Reading a variety of books will help the students build curiosity, problem solving skills, and an imagination that will help them with writing and projects in school.
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
Guiding students to have a growth mindset in school is a difficult task for teachers. To help my students have a growth mindset, I take the time to help students set personal and academic goals, celebrate individual growth, and stress the importance of enjoying the process of learning.
