Dr. Carolyn Daugherty, Principal
Dr. Carolyn Daugherty is beginning her 27th year with the Cherokee County School District. A resident of Cherokee County since 1987, Dr. Daugherty graduated from Etowah High School before pursing her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University. Additionally, Dr. Daugherty holds a master’s degree from Jacksonville State University (Administration), as well as a specialist degree (Administration & Supervision) and doctorate (Executive Leadership) from Lincoln Memorial University.
Over the course of her tenure with the Cherokee County School District, Dr. Daugherty has taught at Little River, Chapman, and Carmel Elementary Schools. Her experience as an administrator began as a Teacher on Special Assignment at R. M. Moore Elementary before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Chapman Intermediate School and later Johnston Elementary. She served as the principal at Macedonia Elementary for five years where she was honored to act as the Creekview HS Innovation Zone Lead Principal for two of those years.
Dr. Daugherty married her high school sweetheart, Jason, who owns his own wealth management firm in Woodstock, and they live in Acworth with their rescue dog, Giles and their many chickens . Dr. Daugherty is honored to serve at Bascomb Elementary and looks forward to many amazing years to come.
Mrs. Katie Murphy, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Murphy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University in Alabama. She earned a Master’s Degree from Piedmont University in Elementary Education. She also has an ESOL Endorsement. Mrs. Murphy started her career teaching Special Education grades kindergarten through fifth grade at Canton Elementary. Her next journey took her to Knox Elementary for one school year before becoming the Special Education Facilitator at Little River Elementary and Mountain Road Elementary. She has served in this role since 2019. Mrs. Murphy was appointed as an Assistant Principal at Bascomb in 2024 and looking forward to the new school year.
Mrs. Murphy married her husband, Eric, in 2014. Eric works in commercial real estate. They have one son, Carter, who is a rising kindergartner at Hickory Flat Elementary, and one daughter, Madi, who is three. As a family, they love Auburn football and basketball, sports, being outside, and staying active.
Mrs. Danielle Gradwell , Assistant Principal
Mrs. Gradwell is beginning her 2nd year here at Bascomb and 20th year in Cherokee County Schools. Mrs. Gradwell completed her undergraduate studies at Reinhardt University in Waleska. She earned her master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University focusing in brain research. Mrs. Gradwell has her specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. She also holds a gifted certification. Mrs. Gradwell has taught for 18 years at Little River Elementary in kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grades.
Mrs. Gradwell married her husband, Vince, in 2005. She is a Cherokee County native and graduated from Etowah High School. They have a daughter, Reese, who will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University this fall. They also have two miniature dachshunds, Emmylou and Izzy. Together, they love to play golf and go to the beach.
